Gardai on patrol in the Naas area of Co Kildare fined a total of 17 drivers for the same offence as stats show road deaths have increase this year compared to the same period in 2021.
The Naas Roads Policing Unit were doing speed checks on the Millennium Link road in recent days and found a large number of motorists breaking the speed limit.
All 17 drivers who were over the limit were followed up with and fixed charge penalty notices have since been issued.

Officers took to Twitter to confirm: “Naas RPU were conducted Speed Checks on millennium link road recently. 17 Drivers were found speeding well over the speed limit of 60kph.
“A fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued to each offender.”
Under Irish law, if you drive over the speed limit, you will get 3 penalty points and a fixed charge fine of €80. If you do not pay the fine within 28 days, it increases to €120.
This comes after gardai recently took to social media to plead with the public to drive safely as road deaths reached 117.
According to officers, this marks an increase of 12 on the same time last year.
Gardai asked that every road user tries to play a part in keeping other safe by practicing safe driving.
“There have been 117 fatalities on our roads thus far in 2022, an increase of 12 deaths compared to figures at the same time last year,” a spokesperson said.
“We all have a role to play in assuring we keep this to a minimum. Road traffic collisions claim lives and irreparably change others.”
