THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 17,681 positive cases of the 97,070 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 18.21%.
Meanwhile, 208 Covid-19 deaths, taking the related death toll in the state to 22,987. At the same time, 25,588 patients have recovered from the disease.
Among the new cases, 16,656 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 881. There are 97 healthcare professionals among those infected and 47 people have arrived from outside the state.
Thiruvananthapuram reported the highest number of cases with 2,143, followed by Kottayam (1,702), Kozhikode (1,680), Ernakulam (1,645), Thrissur (1,567), Palakkad (1,558), Malappuram (1,372), Kollam (1,348), Alappuzha (969), Kannur (967), Wayanad (869), Pathanamthitta (821) Idukki (654) and Kasaragod (386).
The total active cases at present are 1,90,750, of which 13.7% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres.
The district-wise breakup of patients who tested negative are Ernakulam (3,377), Kozhikode (3,368), Malappuram (2,864), Thrissur (2,807), Thiruvananthapuram (1,888), Palakkad (1,855), Kannur (1,767), Alappuzha (1,520), Kottayam (1,485), Kollam (1,175), Pathanamthitta (1,161), Idukki (1,019), Wayanad (956) and Kasaragod (346).
There are a total of 5,61,239 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 5,33,190 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 28,049 are in isolation at hospitals.
As per the weekly infection population ratio, 2507 wards in 678 local bodies are having a WIPR of more than 8%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
