160 coronavirus patients have now died at the Royal Bolton Hospital

The number of patients to die from coronavirus at the Royal Bolton Hospital has now reached 160.

It follows new figures released today which show a further five people passed away earlier this week after testing positive for Covid-19.

Three patients died yesterday (Tuesday)and two on Monday, although these numbers could rise once the data is updated later this week.

Across Greater Manchester, an additional 34 deaths were announced today taking the total to 1,279 people who have passed away after contracting the virus.

These figures only show deaths in hospitals where a patient tested positive for Covid-19, and do not include deaths of people infected with coronavirus in care homes or in the community.

In Bolton, the highest number of deaths was on April 5, when 11 patients lost their lives at the hospital on the same day.

However, it seems like the impact of the coronavirus peaked around April 13-16 when 19 people died over four days.

Since then the numbers have fallen in line with figures from other Greater Manchester hospitals.

And, according to the latest statistics, there was only one Covid-19 fatality on Wednesday, April 22, the lowest on any given day since last month.

Across Bolton, a total of 717 people have tested positive for coronavirus, according to figures released by the government.

Bolton now has one of the highest rates of Covid-19 infection in Greater Manchester, with only Stockport having a higher number of cases per head of population.
