HYDERABAD: Cadet Sanapathi Guru Naidu of Boys Sports Company, AOC Centre Secunderabad scripted history by winning the Gold Medal in Weightlifting at the 2022 IWF Youth World Championship at Leon Mexico.
Participating in the 55 Kg event, the 16-year-old kept his nerve on the World stage to clinch two Gold and one Silver medal in the Clean & Jerk with a total weight of 230 kgs. Brigadier Ajeet Deshpande, Commandant, AOC Centre congratulated him on the win.
Son of marginal farmers Sanapathi Ramaswamy and Papayyamma of a small village Chandram Peta in Vizianagaram District of Andhra Pradesh, Guru Naidu was spotted as a raw talent as a small boy of 11 yrs and brought to AOC Centre Secunderabad in 2017 for his futuristic training.
Guru Naidu a young prodigy over the past five years has toiled hard with single-minded determination to break through ranks to become the current National Champion besides winning a Bronze at Asian Championship in Uzbekistan in 2020. Finally, the dedication of 5 years and intense training at AOC Centre Secunderabad under the guidance of his coaches Subedar Deva Kumar and Subedar Yukar Sibi has borne fruit and Guru is the World Champion today, defence officials said.
World Champion at just 16 yrs, Guru Naidu is a star in the making and will bring many more laurels to the Country. He has not only made the Ordnance Corps proud but also the Indian Army and the Nation as a whole, the authorities said.
AOC Centre Secunderabad is a cradle for nurturing the Young Weightlifting talent of the Country. The young talent between 11 to 14 yrs of age from all across the country are selected and are inducted into the Boys Sports Company in a well-appointed Hostel located at AOC Centre Secunderabad. The Young Weightlifters are put through intensive training as part of a futuristic scientific programme in a fully equipped modern Gym supported by nutrition and sports medicine experts under the watchful eyes of World Class dedicated Coaches.
