16-pages of nostalgic sport and 'fun and games' photographs from across Nottinghamshire to be published

Remember when watching live sport was a given? Or when the only concern about a trip to the theatre or a concert was whether the show would be sold out?

Well, while you might not have to think that far back to reminisce about queuing for the terraces or at the box office, if you fancy a proper trip down memory lane when it comes to entertainment, tomorrow’s Nottingham Post has just the thing for you.

‘The Way We Played’ is a 16-page supplement with pictures celebrating sport and leisure across the county. On sale tomorrow, Tuesday, February 2, 2021, it is packed with gems from the Beatles to stand-out Nottinghamshire sporting memories... even sports days.

Everything from former Nottingham Forest legend Viv Anderson in action against Liverpool during the 1978 League Cup Final at Wembley Stadium to iconic skaters Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean showing off their skills in 1983. And from the fab four to dance halls and disco moves.

This week's special edition is the second in a series of six Memory Lane supplements.

Every Tuesday for the next five weeks the nostalgia supplement will showcase some of the thousands of images on our new local history website ‘Memory Lane’.

Future supplements, also jam-packed with local photographs, will focus on working life, local landmarks, buildings and streets, fashion, trends and youth culture and transport including buses, trains, cars and trams.

You can pick up a copy in the usual way but if you can’t get out to pick up a copy or have missed an issue, you can order the Memory Lane collectable supplements from our online shop or by subscribing to Nottingham Post.

Can't wait to dip into Nottingham pictures from the past? Pop your postcode into our our Memory Lane website for a huge range of photographs from over the last 120 years. Just by signing up with your email address, you’ll get full access to hundreds of thousands of images pulled together from dozens of different online archives including Britain From Above, Francis Frith, our publisher Reach plc’s own library, Geograph and many others.

Your own historic images can also be added to the archive for others to enjoy. And you'll be able to freshen up your own black and white images by using Memory Lane’s free and easy-to-use tool to give them full colour.
