15yo girl faces court over Melbourne hit-and-run that killed couple

A married couple in this car died when it was hit going through the intersection.

A 15-year-old girl has been remanded in custody after facing court charged over a hit-and-run that killed a married couple in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

It is alleged the teenager from Belgrave was a passenger in the stolen car, which ran a red light in Wantirna South in the early hours of Saturday morning, crashing into another vehicle.

A married couple aged in their 30s were killed in the high-speed crash.

They were driving through the intersection of Boronia and Stud roads, on their way home to The Basin, when the cars crashed.

The alleged driver of the stolen car, 19-year-old Eric Victorsen, faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with two counts of culpable driving causing death and car theft.

The Boronia man will return to court on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old girl has been remanded in custody on two counts of being an accessory to culpable driving and car theft.

The court heard it is the girl's first time in custody.

She was supported in court by a child protection worker and social worker.

The girl did not apply for bail but her lawyer indicated she would probably make an application at a later stage.

She will return to a Children's Court next month.
