15 year old has multiple stab wounds after assault in Fishponds

A 15-year-old boy has multiple stab wounds after an assault in Fishponds on New Year's Day.

Police say the attack is being treated as separate from a similar assault in Bristol city centre the previous day.

The assault in Fishponds occurred at around 12.20pm on January 1, with two men carrying weapons approaching the teenager in the Lawn Road area.

The boy, who was riding a scooter, sustained multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital, and his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The two men who carried out the assault fled the scene before police arrived.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that they were treating the assault as separate to a similar stabbing in the city centre the previous day, which saw a 17-year-old boy injured on Colston Avenue at around 10.10pm on New Year's Eve.

Acting Detective Inspector Mark Newbury said officers are "keeping an open mind" as to whether they are linked but that the investigations are currently considered separate.

He said: “We are keen to hear from any witnesses who were in the area at that time, or drivers who potentially may have useful dashcam footage.

“Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare, but we’re conscious a similar assault occurred in Bristol city centre in which a 17-year-old was injured on New Year’s Eve. He remains in hospital but his condition is also not believed to be life-threatening.

“At this time the two incidents are separate investigations but we are keeping an open mind as to whether they may be linked.

“Our neighbourhood teams are aware and additional patrols will be carried out as a precaution.”

Witnesses to the incident in Fishponds should call 101 and give reference number 5221000288.
