15-year-old charged in connection with Perth school fire

A 15-year-old has been charged in connection with a fire at a Perth primary school.

During the school summer holidays, the fire was deliberately set in the grounds of Viewlands Primary School.

The fire, on Sunday, July 28 at around 8.20pm, completely destroyed a shed full of nursery equipment and police had been hunting for the perpetrator ever since.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “A 15-year-old has been charged in connection with a fire at Viewlands Primary School.

“A report will go to the children’s reporter.

“There are still enquiries ongoing around the fire.”

At the time, an eyewitness said windows had been taken out by the fire and it had caused smoke damage to the building.

They said: “The fire was to the nursery shed and it caused smoke damage to a bit of the building.

“Windows were taken out by the fire as well.

“They have been starting fires to the bins in the grounds ever since the holidays started.”

Only two days before the fire at Viewlands Primary School, there was a deliberate fire set in the grounds of nearby Oakbank Primary School.

A 15-year-old was charged in connection with setting a bin outside the school alight on Friday, July 27.

That fire caused smoke damage to an outer wall.
