15-year-old caught running with cleaver at Lime Street Station

A 15-year-old was caught running at Lime Street Station in Liverpool with a cleaver and a knife.

He was alongside a 13-year-old, who was not found in possession of any weapons.

Police caught up with the pair after they ran away from them.

The teenager, who the ECHO cannot name for legal reasons, appeared at Liverpool Youth Court this morning (Tuesday, June 30) before District Judge James Hatton.

Alison Clarkson, prosecuting, explained how the pair ran away from police at the city centre train station on February 13 this year.

After police caught up with them the now 16-year-old was found to have a cleaver and a knife in his possession.

He was also alongside a 13-year-old.

He explained to the court that he had been visiting his then-girlfriend in St Helens when he was stopped.

Nick Archer, defending, explained that the defendant has since had a change in attitude since the offence.

Speaking to the judge and referring to a weapon, the 16-year-old said: "It's getting to the point where I don't see the need to carry one."

Judge Hatton said: "Lots of 16-year-old lads get angry, it's a question of trying to control it."

Stressing the seriousness of the offence the judge said: "You've gone a long way here. There's a risk not only to other people but to you as well."

The teen was handed a referral order of 12 months.
