A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a shooting Saturday in Little Village that wounded a 14-year-old girl.
The boy, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, was charged with a felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm as well as unlawful use of a weapon by someone under the age of 18, Chicago police said.
During his initial court hearing Sunday, he was ordered held in custody at the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 18.
The shooting happened about 1:15 p.m. inside an apartment building near 24th Street and Troy Ave., where a 14-year-old girl was with a 15-year-old “male acquaintance” who was handling a gun, police said.
She was shot in the cheek when the weapon went off, police said. The girl was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, and the boy was in custody Saturday afternoon.
Police initially had said the shooting appeared to be accidental, but there had been no official determination.
