15 words and phrases all Scottish dads say - how many do you recognise?

Whether they're moaning about being a taxi service, or attempting some questionable DIY - most dads have very similar traits.

And in Scotland our dads have that extra special something that sets them apart from every other.

So we have come up with 15 funny phrases Scottish dads say - and you're sure to recognise every one of them.

  1. "Do you think I'm made of money?" - Whenever you need to borrow a fiver.
  2. "What a chancer!" - Sometimes said in conjunction with 'Do you think I'm made of money?'
  3. "It's like Blackpool Illuminations in here" - When you put a light on.
  4. "They couldny run a bath" - someone who is useless.
  5. "Do you think money grows on trees?" - something all parents have said at one point or another to their demanding children.
  6. "I don't need the instructions" - For DIY no manual is needed at any point.
  7. "Where's the rest of that skirt?" - When you've got your gladrags on and he's not pleased.
  8. "I'm not a taxi" - When you request a lift somewhere.
  9. "Maps are for wimps" - Dads don't need maps, they just find their way.
  10. "Did your mother say it was okay?" - When you ask him for permission.
  11. "You done?" - When he mine sweeps everyone else's leftovers at the dinner table
  12. "Is the Pope a Catholic?" - an acceptable (to dads) alternative to simply replying "yes".
  13. "When I was your age ..." - usually heralds the start of a long and boring lecture about how he walked miles to school in all weather / didn't go on holiday / had major responsibilities already.
  14. "I've still got it" - The dad boast for anything he enjoys small success at
  15. "Go and ask your mother" - when you ask him anything at all.
