Teams of rowers took the the Tyne for a series of Dragon Boat races on Saturday afternoon.
More than 200 rowers took part in Newcastle's first Water Dragon Boat Race on Saturday
The 15 teams set off from NE1's Quayside pontoon on the 250m course.
Dragon boat racing is believed to be the fastest growing water sport in Britain. Up to 16 rowers per vessel paddle a 40ft boat to the beat of a drum.
NE1 has pledged to 'animate' the Tyne over the next five years, by arranging events which put Newcastle's famous river in the spotlight - and allow people to see the city from a new perspective.
Over the summer, groups have taken kayak tours on the Tyne, while the city's popular seaside attraction returned again this year.
