15 selfish drivers slapped with fines on road with 'huge issue'

Police carried out a clamp down in an area of south Liverpool that has received repeated complaints about problem parking.

Merseyside Police's Roads Policing unit visited the Lodge Lane area of Toxteth this week and handed out 15 tickets to vehicles for obstruction.

One driver was also handed a court summons for parking on zig zag lines.

The force tweeted out images of two cars that had been hit with tickets during the day of action.

One of the cars was parked entirely on the footpath, leaving very little room for pedestrians, disabled people or parents with prams to get past.

Tweeting, the Roads Policing Unit said: "You asked, we did. 15 tickets for obstruction on Lodge Lane and a summons for parking on zig zags (the driver wanted to contest it).

"We can’t be everywhere but this location keeps cropping up as an issue."

The action against selfish parkers was welcomed on twitter.

One user said: "Wow Finally. It is a constant issue and a dangerous one causing traffic to weaver and snake through. Regular attendances maybe the hit this needs. Thank you."

Bus driver Shirley Hadley added: "A massive issue. I drive my bus down Lodge Lane most days. There not just double parked. Triple parked. On crossings. On zig zags."

And an account called Toxteth Scouser said: "Love this. Huge issue on this road. More please."
