Derry 'wans' know that living in the city comes with its own vocabulary.
Derry sayings are unique and we have compiled a list of some of our favourite sayings and, of course, a translation for non 'Derry wans':
- Yes hi = hello
- Yer a slabber = you are a loudmouth
- That's a sin = disagreeing with something, that is terrible
- Going to get 'the messages' = going out shopping

- He's up a tree in Rosemount = I don't know where he is
- You are thran = you are stubborn
- Whatever ye say, say nothin/say nothin til ye see Claude = old Derry saying referencing legendary solicitor Claude Wilton

- Wee buns = no problem, an easy thing to fix
- Yer a dose = you are silly but harmless, a head melter
- Ye know what I mean like = you know what I am talking about
- What's the craic = how are you, how are things

- Any bars? = any gossip?
- You are a gack = you are silly
- Do you think I came up the Foyle in a bubble = do you think I am stupid
- You have more faces than the Guildhall clock = you are two-faced
