It’s a polka dot summer. If you’ve seen spotted tops, skirts and dresses popping up on your Pinterest feed and Instagram Explore Page, you’re not an anomaly. The nostalgic print is popping up everywhere.
With trends, they’ll either explode into the zeitgeist or creep back into the front of people’s minds over a season or two. With polka dots, it’s been a bit of a mix of both, but the trend has really gained traction this year.
My theory? Its popularity has come along with the growing rejection of ‘quiet luxury’ and ‘old money’ aesthetics. People are bored. They want something colourful, loud and fun. Something that injects a little personality into their wardrobes. And I’m all here for it.
Fendi, Moschino, Valentino and Sandy Liang were designers who showcased polka dots during their respective autumn/winter 2025 runways. One of Fendi’s hero pieces was a black shearling coat with red polka dots, whereas other designers like Moschino preferred to layer and accessorise looks with polka dot accents (think oversized shoulder pads and pant frills).
In terms of celeb sightings, Dua Lipa and Hailey Bieber have been notable icons repping the polka dot trend. Dua Lipa wore a strapless pink ruffle mini dress earlier this year when she was down under for her Radical Optimism tour. She’s also posted to her Instagram in a black and white polka dot bikini with nails to match (super cute).
Hailey Bieber posted wearing a De La Vali white and red polka dot mini dress a couple of weeks ago. It’s already sold out (rip), but a girl can dream.
Margot Robbie is yet another fashion icon who’s partaken in polka dots recently, having worn a white dotted mini dress to Wimbledon in June.
I could rattle on about which celebrities are endorsing the trend, but I won’t subject you to that snoozefest. Instead, I’m going to show you the cutest polka dot pieces I’ve found if you wanna try your hand at styling the print as the weather warms.
