15 players nearing milestones in the 2019 NFL season

As the season heads into its final three weeks, a number of players are approaching statistical milestones, some in their career, others for the 2019 campaign.

Philip Rivers

The Chargers’ QB, who was actually drafted by the New York Giants in 2004, is nearing the 4,000-yard mark. Philip Rivers has already reached the plateau 10 times since coming to the NFL from North Carolina State, including six straight seasons. He needs 252 yards Sunday against Minnesota to do it again.

Nick Chubb

The Browns’ running back from Georgia has been sensational. Nick Chubb currently has 1,281 yards rushing. He holds a 38-yard lead over Derrick Henry of the Titans with three weeks left. If Chubb can hold onto the lead, he would become the first Browns RB to wear the crown since Leroy Kelly did it in back-to-back seasons in 1967 and ’68.

Carlos Hyde

After bouncing around the NFL, Carlos Hyde has found a home in Houston’s backfield with Deshaun Watson. The former Ohio State star comes into Sunday’s game with the Tennessee Titans 74 yards shy of his first 1,000-yard season in the pros.

Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods

The Los Angeles’ Rams wideout has come back strong after suffering an ACL injury in 2018. Cooper Kupp needs 10 yards heading into Sunday’s game with the Dallas Cowboys to reach 1,000 for the season. That would be a first for the Eastern Washington product, who has a career-high 77 yards in 2019. His fellow wideout Robert Woods needs 67 yards to reach 1,000 for the second consecutive year.

Keenan Allen

Keeping with the theme of Los Angeles wideouts, one of Philip Rivers’ favorite targets, Keenan Allen, needs 53 yards to reach 1,000 for the third straight season.

Michael Thomas

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The incomparable Michael Thomas of the Saints is 76 yards short of his first 1,500-yard receiving season. The great wideout from Ohio State also has 121 catches, which leaves him four short of his career-high of 125 set last season. The absolute best. Expect him to do it in front of a national audience on MNF against the Indianapolis Colts.

Travis Kelce

The Chiefs’ elite TE will surely go over the 1,000-yard mark for the fourth straight season against the Denver Broncos. Travis Kelce needs only 11 yards to hit four figures.

Will Lutz

The Saints’ strong kicker needs to have a strong finish to top his career-high in points. Will Lutz has 120 points coming into MNF. His best year by points totals was 2017 when he finished the regular season with 140.

Harrison Butker

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

In addition to a potent offense, the Chiefs have a weapon in their kicker. Harrison Butker has made 28-of-32 field-goal attempts this season. Add in his PATs and comes into Sunday’s game with the Broncos at 123. He would need 20 more points to surpass his high of 142 set as a rookie in 2017.

Christian McCaffrey

 Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Christian McCaffrey needs one TD — or two-point conversion — to reach the century mark for the first time. The former Stanford great has 16 TDs and one two-point conversion heading into Sunday against Seattle.

Derrick Henry

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

The Heisman winner from Alabama who is playing exceptional football for the Titans is also nearly the century mark in points. Henry had 15 TDs in 2019 and that leaves him with 90 points with three games left.

Josh Allen

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars are having a rough year but they definitely have a star in their top draft pick. Josh Allen had nine sacks heading into Week 15 and closing in on double figures.

Larry Fitzgerald

The ageless wonder of the desert, Larry Fitzgerald, stands to cross another plateau against the Cleveland Browns Sunday. If Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray can find a way to get the ball to the great wideout for 52 yards, it would push Fitzgerald beyond the 17,000-yard mark in his surefire HOF career.

Jarvis Landry

Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

For all the trouble and headlines in Cleveland this season, Jarvis Landry has done his job quietly and solidly. The LSU WR comes into Sunday with 995 yards and will cross the four-figure plateau with five yards against Arizona. Landry has been within reach of the mark in the past two seasons, missing by 13 and 24 yards, respectively, since arriving as a Brown.
