As the nights draw in and the weather becomes a little gloomier now is the perfect time to treat yourself to a gorgeous hot chocolate and here in Cardiff we are spoilt for choice.
There is a great range of cafes and coffee shops selling delicious hot chocolates - from ones with all the toppings and unique flavours to the simple classics.
Here are our best picks, in no particular order, that will warm you up this winter.

1. Hotel Chocolat
For a very luxurious hot chocolate then Hotel Chocolat in St David's Centre is a great place to go.
There is so much choice from mint hot chocolate to salted caramel hot chocolate to a classic hot chocolate, it will be tricky picking your favourite.
2. Coffi Co

With sites across South Wales, including Gin & Bake and Mermaid Quay in Cardiff, these winter hot chocolates from Coffi Co are not to be missed.
The S'mores hot chocolate and the Jaffa Cake hot chocolate are both topped with whipped cream and the S'more hot chocolate comes with marshmallows and crumbled biscuits.
3. Milk and Sugar

This independent business with a café on Wood Street and one in Pontcanna is serving naughty and nice hot chocolates this winter.
Using oat milk, dark chocolate powder, dark chocolate buttons and the optional choice of vegan whipped cream, this hot chocolate is not to be missed.
4. Coffee#1

With cafes in different locations across Cardiff, including Pontcanna and Albany Road, the business has been running since 2001.
You can grab both a classic and a white chocolate here and upgrade them to deluxe for all the toppings.
5. The Plan

Found in the Morgan Arcade is The Plan that serves coffee and wine alongside a great boozy hot chocolate.
Serving up their hot chocolate with Baileys you can enjoy a blinged-up sweet treat.
6. Wild Thing

For something a bit different head to Wild Thing at Cathays Community Centre on Cathays Terrace for their Beetroot Hot Chocolate.
This local and ethical cafe, where you pay what you can, has been serving up their speciality since opening and it is also made with maple oat milk.
7. Costa

The well known chain Costa has brought back its Black Forest Hot Chocolate at its venues, which include coffee shops on Queen Street and Park Place.
This hot chocolate comes with cherry sauce, whipped cream and chocolate curls and is a firm favourite for many. Obviously so...
8. Hard Lines Coffee Roasters

Another hot chocolate with a difference is the the chilli hot chocolate from Hardlines Coffee which you can find in Cardiff Market.
This hot chocolate is made using Kashmiri chilli, cinnamon and oat or dairy milk to create an unusual but amazing combination.
9. Second Chance Coffee
This pop up coffee shop that can often be found at ION Strength and Conditioning Cardiff in Llanishen serves up a great hot chocolate.
This business aims to help those with criminal records or history of offending and their hot chocolate is also available as a Baby Choc for your little ones.
10. Park Side
This dog-friendly cafe in Anthony Road, Heath, offers a fab hot chocolate for cold winter days.
Served in a big mug and topped with marshmallows and chocolate dusting you cannot go wrong with this classic.
11. Coffee Barker

Creating hot chocolates that will have you drooling is Coffee Barker in Castle Arcade.
Generously topped with whipped cream, chocolate dusting, marshmallows and a flake you are sure to get your chocolate hit.
12. Handlebar Barista
This coffee shop is a Tuk-Tuk that can be found in Bute Park serving up hot chocolates all year round.
This unique coffee shop is portable and serves all classic hot chocolates in compostable or biodegradable cups.
13. Graig Coffi

New to the coffee shop scene is Graig Coffi which you can find on Graig Road, Lisvane.
Serving a variety of different hot chocolates, from double chocolate with chocolate whipped cream and marshmallows to Biscoff hot chocolate, their hot chocolates are not to be missed.
14. Social Eats
Using locally-sourced ingredients Social Eats on Salisbury Road is vegan, gluten free and dog-friendly.
Serving up the classic hot chocolate you can either eat in or order a takeaway here.
15. Caffe Nero
The popular brand Caffe Nero also has different cafes across Cardiff, including Leckwith Road and Capitol Shopping Centre.
Here you can get a luxury hot chocolate with whipped cream and Belgian chocolate sprinkles.
