Pro-government forces in Yemen. (Reuters)

Fifteen Iran-backed Houthi militants were killed on Wednesday during an ambush set up by the Yemeni national army in the northern Saada province.

A number of militants were also wounded in the attack in the Baqim region.

Field commander Kanaan al-Ahsab told the September.net website that the army had lured the Houthis, who had tried to infiltrate into positions in Baqim.

Saudi-led Arab coalition jets had also carried out air strikes against Houthi reinforcements near Baqim.

Five Houthi vehicles were destroyed in the attack.
