There are currently 15 areas in the North East where the coronavirus infection rate is below 100.
The number of areas with low rates of infection has dropped across the North East, according to figures from Public Health England.
In the seven days up to December 28 there are 15 areas with low rates, compared to 31 in the week leading up to December 25.
Five areas of the region's seven local authority areas with low infections rates: Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland and County Durham.
In Northumberland the virus levels are so low in North Cramlington and Seahouse, Belford and Wooler, the Government won’t disclose how many cases there are to avoid identifying anyone who has the virus.
Elsewhere in Northumberland the rate of infection also remains low in Ponteland.
Whitley Bay North has the lowest rate in North Tyneside, which has three areas in total with low rates.
Newcastle currently has five areas with low rates, with South Jesmond and Sandyford having the lowest rate in the city.
County Durham also has two areas with low rates, including Durham City which was once a UK Covid-19 hotspot.
The only area within Sunderland's local authority area with a low rate is Oxclose and Lambton.
