A 14-foot-long Burmese python has been found dozing by a popular Scottish pub.
The reptile was found by two building workers who assumed it was asleep until it started slithering away.
Police Scotland said it is now under the care of a local veterinary practice.
The snake was found curled up by a fence opposite the Broomhill Tavern in Greenock, which is currently shut due to Covid regulations.
Police said it was one of several snakes spotted in the area.
Inspector Paul Thompson at Greenock Police Station said: “Officers are currently dealing with the reports of a number of sightings of large snakes in the Greenock and Gourock area.
"I would urge anyone who may come across a snake not to approach it, but to call police reporting its position.
"At this stage we are carrying out local enquiries in order to establish if anyone is missing any snakes.
"Anyone who can help in this matter is asked to call police on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 1700 of 2 February.”
Video of the latest discovery, posted to social media, includes the exclamation: “F****** hell man, look at the size of the beast.”
In 2010, a 6ft exotic snake was found roaming the streets of Greenock having escaped from a local pet shop.
