140 jobs created across two UK sites as electronic component manufacturer responds to onshoring trend

Electronic component specialist Alpha 3 Manufacturing Group is creating 140 jobs across two UK business sites.

The Scunthorpe-headquartered company is responding to an emerging trend of onshoring of sub-contracting work, creating 58 roles in the town at its DEM Manufacturing operation, with 82 at sister site Tekdata Interconnections in Stoke-on-Trent.

DEM will become the firm’s centre of excellence for electro-mechanical manufacturing, including full cabinet builds, with Tekdata focusing on providing a full range of cable harnesses, from specialist bespoke items to bulk orders.

Dave Moore, managing director at Alpha 3 Manufacturing Group, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to recruit for so many roles at our new centres of excellence, it shows that both the UK economy is bouncing back after the Covid-related issues in the last year and that premium quality UK manufacturing is still valued by customers.

“It’s great to lead an organisation which illustrates the value of UK manufacturing. Our announcement shows that UK manufacturing can still thrive in 2021, even in the competitive sub-contract market where our customers are now reversing the trends of the past few decades and onshoring more of their procurement. Customers value our UK production for the short, responsive supply chains, value for money pricing and unparalleled access to engineering teams who can provide face to face same-day customer support.

“The creation of these centres of excellence will benefit customers owing to the enhancement of the group’s capabilities including the continuation of our recent investments in modern manufacturing technology, employee training and development, plus the consolidation of our engineering expertise. These changes will broaden the portfolio of Alpha 3’s service offering whilst also giving our colleagues greater job satisfaction and career progression opportunities.”

Applicants are being sought for a range of roles.

Launched post-war in west London, under the Deltron brand and specialising in audio components, it relocated to North Lincolnshire in 2000. Seven years later what had become DEM Manufacturing, with several units, became a division of Alpha, retaining the Hargreaves Way base as the headquarters.

Nearly 300 people are already employed, with a turnover of £25 million. Products go into industrial, aerospace, defence, medical, rail and automotive markets.

Together they deliver sub contract manufacturing of cable and electro mechanical assemblies, design and manufacture of electrical components and high integrity, high performance cable harnesses.
