NARATHIWAT: A 14-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet in a gun attack in Rueso district yesterday. The man believed to be the actual target was injured, police said.
The attack occurred at 2am at a grocery shop at Village Group 3 in tambon Suwari.
A police investigation revealed that Sathit Kaewnunual, 39, from Yala's Muang district, arrived on a motorcycle and sat down under a shelter in front of the grocery shop.
A gunman hiding in the dark fired two shots at him with an M16 rifle. One of the shots hit Mr Sathit in the body while the other missed him but hit and killed Abdul Asan Baka, 14, who happened to be walking into the grocery shop.
Airports target import tax dodgers
duty: The Immigration Bureau and the Customs Department are scaling up their efforts to prevent air passengers from bringing in brand name products into the country without paying proper import tax.
Customs officials at all international airports are being instructed to focus on passengers who often travel to the same foreign destinations who have been hired to buy brand name products for someone else in Thailand, said deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Police Pol Col Choengron Rimphadi.
The passengers are also known to work for online traders who offer luxury products on social media.
Vajiralongkorn Dam discharge goes on
KANCHANABURI: Following heavy rain, Vajiralongkorn Dam in Thong Pha Phum district of this western province will continue to discharge water at the same rate until Sept 3, dam director Waiwit Saengpanich said.
Under a previous plan, the Vajiralongkorn dam was to discharge water at the same rate from last Thursday until today. However, since high volumes of water continue to enter the dam, it is necessary to prolong this rate of discharge on at least Sept 3, Mr Waiwit said.
