14-year-old girl on fishing trip identified as victim in fatal car crash on remote NT station

NT Police said the five teenagers involved in the crash were friends.

The victim of a car crash on a private property in the Northern Territory's remote Daly River region on Saturday night was a 14-year-old girl, NT Police has confirmed.

NT Police said five teenagers, who were on a fishing trip, were in the ute when it crashed.

Police said two girls, the deceased and a 13-year-old who was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital with leg injuries, were ejected from the ute tray at the time of the crash.

NT Police said the 13-year-old girl was set to undergo surgery but her injuries were not life-threatening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said the five teenagers — aged between 13 and 17 — were all friends.

Sergeant Lindner said police were continuing to investigate the crash.

"NT Police Major Crash [Investigation Unit] are investigating the circumstances surrounding that incident," he said.

"As you can imagine, these passengers who we are in the process of speaking to have just witnessed their friend die in this incident.

"The investigation is in its infancy and we will endeavour to speak to all of those people this week … to determine what's occurred and why."
