The second May bank holiday for 2019 - and half term - are almost here which means a long weekend for most people at the very least.
So it's a great opportunity to make the most of what's on offer around the capital - from music, food and fun events for all the family.
We've rounded up the best events on offer in and around Cardiff from Monday, May 27 to Friday, May 31 - and the weekends either side of the school break.

1. Spice Girls

It's the reunion we've all been waiting for - Spice Girls are back (but minus Posh).
And after initially announcing a handful of UK stadium dates that didn't include Wales, the Spices have now added an extra date in the capital.
Jess Glynne will be supporting them.

2. Merthyr Rising
There's a brilliant line-up for the festival that celebrates culture and politics on the anniversary of the Merthyr Rising.
Cast, Black Grape, Sugarhill Gang & the Furious 5 and The Neville Staple Band lead the cracking musical entertainment and on the debate side, Welsh footy legend and Twitter social warrior, Neville Southall will be chairing one of the debates on how politics have played a role in working class football fanship.

3. Cowbridge Food & Drink Festival
Family activities, including pizza-making, food demos - from Lia's Kitchen, Taste of Persia, Samonsa Co - and loads of tasty street food and vendors, will make Cowbridge a great place to hang out this Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend.

4. Hay Festival
There's lots going on at the annual literature event for all the family.
Zog author Julia Donaldson, Reimagined fairytales with Jessie Burton and the celebration of the Hungry Caterpillar amongst others. There's also the family workshops too.
For older visitors stand-out lectures will see Emily Maitlis, Dolly Alderton, Greg James, Moby, Ian McEwan and Keir Starmer take to the tent.

5. Urdd National Eisteddfod
With free entry (unless you're wanting to get into the competition pavilion) to the Maes there's loads of activities and live music.
From face-painting, clog dancing and sports to silent discos, there's so much to get involved in.

6. Captain Henry Morgan's Pirate Weekend
The annual celebration of one of the world’s most infamous buccaneers has grown into a whole weekend of festivities as Tredegar House and gardens is turned into a playground for pirates.
Take part in plonk the pirate, walk the plank, lime and spoon races, cleaning up the seas, sinking the fleet and sing some sea shanties.

7. Olly Murs
The chart-topper returns to Wales after his gig at Swansea's Singleton Park in 2016. You Know I Know is the singer's sixth album and he will be supported by Rak-Su on tour.

8. Busted
In line with the release of their new album, Half Way There, the trio are said to be returning to their "hyperactive pop-punk sound" for the first time since 2003's multi-platinum album, A Present For Everyone.

9. Victoria Park Splashpad
The splashpad , which is located in the beautiful grounds of the Grade II-listed park, is about to reopen for summer 2019.
Free to use, the features include sprays, jets, a tipping water bucket and a tunnel.

10. Aberdare Festival
With an interactive dinosaur, circus workshops and science experiments, Aberdare Park will be full of fun this bank holiday.

11. Garw Valley Railway Open Day
One for the train lovers and kids who are obsessed with Thomas the Tank.
See how the railway's progress is coming on and join in the activities including demonstration train workings, miniature railway (additional fare), model railway displays, local gifts, food and attractions, locomotive cab and stock access.

12. Let Battle Commence at Caerphilly Castle

Meet the men and women of the 13th century. Fashion, combat, food and fun, the characters of the castle’s past will take you back in time.

13. Generation Games at Techniquest

This exhibition showcases games consoles all the way from 1972 to the present day.
Try a game from each of the eight generations of consoles on display, including Tetris on an original 1990s Game Boy, Tomb Raider in Generation 5 and Virtual Reality in Generation 8.

14. Pizza and Prosecco Party
This one's for the grown ups as we think they deserve a treat especially for themselves...
Sample from a huge range of Prosecco and Prosecco cocktails and pair them with freshly-cooked woodfired pizza - or other street food traders. There's also going to be live singers and performers.
