Today marks World Heritage Day, an annual event celebrated on 18 April.

There are 31 World Heritage Sites in the UK and six of them are right here in Scotland.

Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town account for two of these, both granted World Heritage status.

It's no wonder Edinburgh is one of the world's most beautiful cities ; it's picture perfect from St Giles' Cathedral on Edinburgh's High Street all the way to the New Town's most Instagrammable Street.

In case you need convincing, here are fourteen photos of this stunning city to mark World Heritage Day that will make you proud to be from Edinburgh.

Don't forget Scottish National Trust want you to send in your photos of Edinburgh's Old and New Town or the Forth Bridge for their competition - find out more here.
