Feb. 23--Three Eastside projects totaling 14 new homes won final approval from the Costa Mesa Planning Commission during its meeting Monday.
Each project will replace older homes. Some selling prices are expected to be in the $900,000s.
The largest project, at 133 and 139 E. 21st St., will take out five rental homes dating from the early 1960s. In their place will be eight "contemporary cottage" homes on a 0.72-acre lot.
The new two-story houses will be about 1,900 square feet with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Thirty-three parking spaces -- the amount required by city code -- will be designed into the tract.
The developer is Costa Mesa-based Matt White Custom Homes.
A project by Corona del Mar businessman Warren Caves was approved for 165 and 171 E. 22nd St., where two homes built in 1959 will be razed to make way for four new homes. Each will be about 2,500 square feet with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
The 0.3-acre tract will contain 16 parking spaces, the amount required by city code.
The third project will not add homes but will replace two houses with two larger ones at 146 E. 18th St. and 1804 Fullerton Ave., an adjacent parcel.
The new two-story homes will be about 2,800 square feet with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. Eight parking spots, including two two-car garages, are planned.
The project is designed by Arcadia-based TAG Design Works.
