KANCHANABURI: Fourteen illegal Myanmar migrants have been arrested in a border area in Muang district on Thursday morning.

A joint patrol of soldiers from the Lat Ya Task Force and local police found the foreigners, seven of whom were men, hidden in a forested area near Taboon mountain in Ban Prutudan village. None of them carried travel documents.

During questioning, they told the arresting team that they had walked along natural trails from Dawei for three days. They subsequenly waited at a pickup point as instructed by a job agent, who had promised them jobs in three southern provinces of Surat Thani, Songkhla and Phangnga.

They were told that upon arriving at their destinations, they had to pay 15,000-22,500 baht each to the job broker, said the detainees.

After health checks, they were sent to police for legal action and deportation.
