14 more people die in the UK as coronavirus pandemic grows

Fourteen more people in the UK have died because of coronavirus - as the pandemic continues to spread pain across the country.

The total number of deaths related to the virus in the country now stands at 69 in England and 71 in the UK, and is expected to continue to rise.

A 45-year-old was among the victims.

Earlier today Public Health England said a total of 50,442 people have been tested for the disease, with 1,950 testing positive.

But the UK's Chief Scientific Officer Sir Patrick Vallance warned that the real number of people who currently have the disease could be more like 55,000.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak are about to address the nation in a press conference where they will outline the government's current position.

Many businesses are hoping Mr Sunak will outline strong measures to support them after the government warned people not to venture out socially in a bid to contain the virus.

Yesterday the Prime Minister announced a huge raft of strict new measures and advised people to work from home and stop socialising as the government tries to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

Today the Foreign Office has advised against all non-essential foreign travel for an initial period of 30 days.

NHS Hospitals have also been told to cancel operations for three months in a bid to free up 30,000 beds for coronavirus patients.

In a letter to NHS bosses sent today, NHS England said hospitals should look to cancel all non-urgent surgeries for at least three months.
