14 lions on the loose after escaping from Kruger National Park in South Africa

A pride of about 14 lions has escaped from Kruger National Park with the animals spotted roaming near a mine, officials warned today.

Field rangers were tracking the beasts roaming around the town of Phalaborwa near the Foskor mine in northeast South Africa.

The Limpopo government confirmed in a tweet the lions were believed to have escaped from Kruger National park and were seen roaming around the Phalaborwa Foskor Mine.

“The lions are to be captured and released back at Kruger National Park,” the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism said.

that the lions are to be captured and released back at Kruger National Park.

Employees at Foskor Mine and members of the public are hereby advised to be alert at all
times.

“Employees at Foskor mine and members of the public are advised to be alert at all times,” it added.

It comes two days after Kruger National Park confirmed one of its staff member's children had been mauled to death by a leopard.

The two-year-old boy was killed at the staff living quarters on Wednesday evening.

Staff rangers later tracked and shot the leopard to prevent the animal harming another person.
