14 killed, 50 injured as truck rams into three buses carrying participants of Kol Mahakumbh in MP's Sidhi district

BHOPAL: Fourteen persons were killed and 50 injured after a recklessly driven truck rammed into three buses in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. Around 13 passengers are said to be in a critical condition.

The incident took place near Barkhada village close to Mohania tunnel where two of the buses fell into a ditch, and third one overturned on the road. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed grief over this incident. He left for Rewa Medical College to meet the injured soon after receiving the information.

DGP Sudhir Saxena said that it was an unfortunate incident, "We are doing our best. Multiple teams are working on it," he told TOI.

Sidhi Collector, SP . Rewa commissioner and IG also rushed to the spot. Injured were taken to Rewa Medical College Hospital. It is being said that this bus had gone to the Kol tribe Mahakumbh in Satna where Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Shivraj were also present.

Accident took place while they were returning from the program around 9 pm. The program ended at 5.30 pm, after which all the buses were going straight from Satna via Rampur Baghelan and Rewa via Mohania Tunnel.

Three buses stopped for some time near Barkhada village in Churhat police station area of Sidhi district, one kilometer away from the tunnel. Meanwhile, a cement-laden truck coming from behind rammed into these buses. There were 50 to 60 passengers in each of the buses. As soon as the collision took place, two buses fell into a 10 feet deep gorge. There was an outcry after the accident. Passengers informed the police.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed grief over this accident. He has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Along with this, instructions have been given to arrange for proper treatment of the injured. The Chief Minister is in touch with the administration of both the districts on this bus accident that took place between Rewa to Sidhi. He has given instructions to the officials for the rescue operation.
