14 hidden security features of the new £20 note released this month

After the recent releases of a new polymer £5 and £10 the £20 will join it in February as a new plastic note comes into circulation to replace the old paper version.

The Bank of England will release the new £20 on Thursday, February 20 and the note has 14 'hidden' security features designed to stop forgeries.

BofE governor Mark Carney  said: "Our banknotes celebrate the UK's heritage, salute its culture, and testify to the achievements of its most notable individuals.

"The new £20 note celebrates Turner, his art and his legacy in all their radiant, colourful, evocative glory."

One of the designers has revealed the 14 hidden features worked into the note, reports The Mirror.

Chief designer of the banknote, Debbie Marriott, told  The Telegraph: "With the security features, we try to reference the character as much as we can to make it more interesting.

"The more people look at the note, the less likely they will pass on counterfeits."

This is what you should be looking out for on a genuine new £20:

  1. Turner’s self-portrait
