All people entering Japan from the United States will be asked to isolate themselves at home, a hotel or other accommodations for 14 days after arrival and to refrain from using public transport, the government decided Monday.

This policy will be in effect from Thursday through the end of April.

The government has so far made the same request to all travelers, including Japanese nationals, arriving from China, South Korea, most of Europe, and other countries and regions.

The Foreign Ministry on Sunday raised the four-level infection risk advisory for the United States to level 2, up from the lowest level of 1, and asked people in Japan to refrain from traveling to the United States unless urgently necessary.

The U.S. State Department last Thursday advised U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel and raised the health advisory across the globe to the highest level of 4.
