The £13m project to refurbish three iconic tower blocks in Glasgow is up for a national award.
The project at the Cedar Court high flats, in the Woodside area, has been short-listed in the Architectural Merit category of the 2020 Insulated Render and Cladding Association (INCA) Awards.
The flats, which were built in the 1960s, were given a newly-built look via new cladding, triple glazing and arguably the most eye-catching feature of the renovation in the newly glazed balcony enclosures - which has transformed the previously open balconies into winter gardens.
Further enhancements to the high-rises - which house 314 flats - included new lifts, a public foyer, rooftop mounted solar panels, ground floor commercial units and landscaping.

Renewable heating and ventilation systems were also introduced to bring the towers up to modern standard, with Architects Journal noting that the multi-million pound project sought to tackle fuel poverty while exemplifying Glasgow City Council’s shift towards retrofitting its high-rise housing.
How do you think the job they've done with them?
The awards take place on November 24. Best of luck to those behind the refurbishment!
