NEW DELHI: Delhi University selected 138 students for admission to post graduate courses under the sports quota. Eighteen of them will be given direct admissions without trials.
“The remaining students will be given admission after a merit list is prepared. The merit list will be made based on the scores they got in their trials and the entrance exams,” DU Sports Council chairman CS Dubey said.
To qualify for direct admissions, the students should have represented the country in at least one of the sporting events — Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Championships, Commonwealth Games, SAF Games and Afro-Asian Games and Paralympic Games.
Dubey said students admitted under sports quota will have to represent the university in interuniversity and national-level games. Postgraduate courses reserve up to 5% of the total seats for sports quota admissions. These are supernumerary seats. The university got 1,100 applications for admission under sports quota. Only 229 candidates were eligible for trials, after the fitness tests.
The maximum marks for sports trials is 25 and for sports certificates is 75. “A candidate has to score a minimum of 9 marks in sports trial for admission under sports category,” an official said.
For undergraduate courses, the university got 10,000 applications. As many as 6,600 students were eligible for trials.
