131 suspected cases of coronavirus in Irish hospitals with 30 all in one county

A total of 131 people suspected of having Covid-19 were awaiting test results from Irish hospitals as of 8pm last night.

University Hospital Limerick has 30 patients with suspected cases awaiting results with Beaumont Hospital in Dublin with 20.

St James's Hospital in Dublin has 11 while South Tipperary Hospital has a further 10.

As of 8pm last night there were a total of 19 coronavirus cases in Irish hospitals with 12 patients in critical care units.

A further three people were announced to have died due to Covid-19 on Wednesday.

Six new cases were confirmed by the Department of Health bringing the total number in Ireland to 25,477.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “The National Public Health Emergency Team continues to advise against all non-essential travel. 

“The WHO has warned that the global pandemic is accelerating. In the past week, over 160,000 cases have been reported each day.

“The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet again tomorrow as it continues to monitor the spread of Covid-19 nationally and internationally, and review Ireland’s response and preparedness to the disease.”
