130 child sex charges brought against 79yo man

A 78-year-old man charged with 130 child sex offences dating back to the 1970s has been refused bail in a central Queensland court.

Detectives from Operation Oscar Moonglow arrested the man after an investigation into alleged attacks on three girls in north Queensland and Brisbane between 1972 and 1993.

He was taken into custody yesterday at Sapphire, west of Emerald.

The 130 charges include 53 counts of rape and 61 counts of indecent treatment of a girl under 16.

The man, who can not be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.

Police requested an eight-week adjournment while they determine which jurisdiction will hear the charges.

Magistrate Catherine Benson remanded the man in custody until September.
