Four people were shot March 14, 2021, in South Shore. | Sun-Times file

Gunfire rang out Sunday during a robbery in South Shore, wounding four people, including a 13-year-old boy and another bystander walking nearby.

Several males confronted a pair inside a vehicle, showed a handgun and demanded money, Chicago police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli said in an email.

The robbery happened about 2:40 p.m. in the 2600 block of East 77th Street.

The pair in the car threw some cash out the window and sped off, at which point the males opened fire, Bartoli said.

The pair in the car — a woman, 25, and a man, 36 — took themselves to Trinity Hospital with gunshot wounds, police said in a media notification. The man was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to his thigh. The woman was in good condition with a graze wound to her head.

A 13-year-old boy and a man walking nearby were also hurt by gunfire, Bartoli said.

Paramedics took the boy to Comer Children’s Hospital with a wound to his knee, police said. He was in good condition. A 20-year-old man was hospitalized at the University of Chicago Medical Center with a wound to the arm.
