13 Reasons Why fans are convinced Justin Foley dies - here's why

Every season of 13 Reasons Why so far has been packed with unexpected and shocking twists, so viewers can bet the final season will be the same.

After three years of covering up some very serious crimes, fans have plenty of guesses about what might be in store next for the teens at Liberty High.

One of the biggest fan theories that has taken over the internet is about Justin Foley - and viewers think this could be the end of the bumpy road for this character.

Although this is just speculation, 13 Reasons Why aren’t averse to killing off fan favourites, which would put Justin in prime position - here’s why they think he’s coming to an untimely demise:

His addiction problems

(David Moir/Netflix)

Justin served as an antagonistic presence in the first and second seasons when he was revealed as both the first and ninth reasons for student Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) taking her own life.

Later, in the third season, Justin attempts to piece his life back together but eventually succumbs to a severe drug addiction.

His addiction problems could point to Justin being one of the first major deaths for season four, as fans are specualting he may accidentally overdose.

At one point in a sneak peek trailer for the final season, Justin is seen in a hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Fans are concluding that this means he’s nearly his fate - although some are of the opinion that he might be in the hospital recovering from a drug overdose.

Though Justin seems like he’s on the up, reversing his hard work to get clean at the last second does seem like something 13 Reasons Why might do…

Sid and Nancy

The potential twist of Justin’s death may have been foreshadowed as far back as Season 1, when Justin and Jessica dressed up as Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen at the school dance, and Clay reminded them of how their story ends (with both of them dead).

Sid Vicious, the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, was charged with the murder of girlfriend Nancy before he died of a heroin overdose.

Plus, in a picture posted to 13 Reason Why’s official instagram page, Justin calls Jessica ‘Nancy’ in her yearbook page picture, and signs off ‘Sid’… could this be the end for one or both of them?

As this bleak and exciting high school drama comes to an end, fans will finally find out the whole truth behind the death of Season 1 protagonist Hannah Baker.

The fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why is streaming on Netflix now.
