13 of the best named pubs in Ireland- from wordplays to one very rude joke

With Ireland finally moving out of lockdown, those pubs that prepare food on-site have reopened to welcome back their patrons.

With friends and families set to reacquaint over the Christmas season - while adhering to the correct COVID protocols, of course - the Irish Mirror decide to look at some of those pubs in Ireland that have brilliant names.

As always, if you have any other candidates, please let us know.

The Camàn Inn - Delvin, Westmeath

With a name like that, sure, you'll have to pop in.

The Morgue in Templeogue, Dublin

With food on offer and plenty of space to be had in their bar and lounge, this popular spot is far from dead!

The Morgue (The Morgue website)

The Mighty Session, Dingle, Kerry

When lockdown lifts and pubs can reopen, we're certain the name is definitely going to come to life!

The Gravediggers, Phibsborough, Dublin

An institution in Dublin that serves a hell of a pint of Guinness, it's located next to a graveyard, hence the name.

The Gravediggers (The Gravediggers Facebook)

The Cock Tavern, Swords, Dublin

It was a toss-up between this and The Fighting Cocks Pub in Carlow. A veritable cockfight, if you will.

The Cock Tavern (The Cock Tavern)

The Sky and the Ground, Wexford

With plenty of craft beers and whiskey's to choose from, you might feel like you're as high as a cloud in the sky after leaving.

The Sky and the Ground (The Sky and the Ground Facebook)

The Dying Cow, Wicklow

The famous pub sits on the Wicklow Way and prior to COVID, it was known for hosting a trad session every fortnight. It's also very popular with tourists who are travelling through the area.

The Blue Loo, Glengarriff, Cork

Located at the Kenmare end of the village on the main street, this traditional bar is known for its sandwiches, live music, and racy postcards!

Whether outside on the benches during the Summer or sitting inside by the fire in Winter, it is always a popular spot.

The Blue Loo, Glengarrif (The Blue Loo Facebook)

The Wander Inn, Waterford

Voted Waterford's Top Local pub, The Wander Inn has been run by the Aylwards for the past 51 years. With a name like that, it would be rude not to pop in.

The Wander Inn (The Wander Inn Facebook)

The Elf Inn, Elphin

Ok, it's technically a restaurant but because they also serve alcohol, we felt this was deserving of a mention. Also, that name is just too good.

The Roaring Donkey, Cobh in Cork

Cobh's most traditional pub since 1880. You might be horse after a few jars and songs.

The Ramble Inn, Mitchelstown, Cork

There's another pub with the same name in Dublin but we're opting for this very welcoming pub in the Rebel County.

Igo Inn, Balybrack, Dublin

Sure, with a name like that, you have to!
