13 hours of rain expected for parts of Nottinghamshire as yellow rain warning issued

More wet weather is on the way this week as 13 hours worth of rain is expected to fall on parts of the county.

Parts of Nottinghamshire will be hit by constant rainfall with a yellow weather warning issued from 6am on Thursday until 6am on Friday.

The warning has been placed across a large section of the UK, covering parts of the East Midlands up to the North East.

A statement from the Met Office reads: "Prolonged rain through Thursday and overnight into Friday may bring disruption from flooding.

"Heavy rain may lead to some disruption."

Mansfield and Newark-on-Trent are among the areas in Nottinghamshire expected to be caught by the heavy rain.

The national weather service says that while the weather warning is in place, people should expect:

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, with a risk that some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life

Nottinghamshire last had a warning issued for flooding at the end of October, when the Trent was up at the Colwick river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall further along the river.

At Stoke Bardolph, the Trent had dramatically burst its banks, with roads at risk of flooding across the area.
