Anni is 12 years old and has been looking after her mum since her legs were crushed in a car accident. She spends her life worrying about her, rushing home from school every day to their huge old house to check on her. Her life is a constant struggle.
One day after a record-breaking sprint home, she finds her mother in a state of shock; she has heard footsteps and voices in the house. She doesn’t initially take her mum seriously, however when it happens a second time, she searches the house and finds the traps she had laid have been disturbed. Voices are coming from the attic and the light is on.
She almost manages to get herself and her mum out, when they are surrounded. Watched by the intruders for 24 hours, she gets to know them. Then she stumbles across a box of photos and a secret is unlocked. Who is she really, and what will her new life be like?
I loved this book because it deals with an issue that many children face today: looking after their parents. It’s a topic that needs to be raised and considered in greater detail. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery.
