13 Halloween movies and TV shows on RTE, BBC, Virgin Media and Netflix this weekend

With Halloween quickly approaching, a decent horror film is essential at this time of year. 

On that note, the Irish Mirror has selected a few films that should definitely scare you senseless. 

However, we've also thrown in a few more family-friendly choices, for those that scare easily! 

Here's the best of what's on RTÉ, TG4, BBC, Virgin Media, and Netflix this weekend.

Goosebumps  - Saturday at 18.35 on RTÉ1

Plot: A teenager teams up with the daughter of young adult horror author R. L. Stine after the writer's imaginary demons are set free on the town of Madison, Delaware. It's definitely one to keep the kids happy.

Irish man gets fright of life in spooky VR game

The Silence of the Lambs - Saturday 21.20 on TG4

Plot: A young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.

Poltergeist - Saturday at 23.10 on BBC 2

Plot: A family's home is haunted by a host of demonic ghosts.

Plot: Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

Plot: Washed-up true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt finds a box of super 8 home movies in his new home that suggest the murder that he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose work dates back to the 1960s.

A Quiet Place

Plot: In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.

The Visit

Plot: Two siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents' disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.

Extra Ordinary

Plot: For those looking for something lighter but with a touch of horror, this Irish film should do nicely. The plot revolves around Rose, a mostly sweet and lonely Irish driving instructor, must use her supernatural talents to save the daughter of Martin (also mostly sweet and lonely) from a washed-up rock star who is using her in a Satanic pact to reignite his fame.

Halloween

Plot: Laurie Strode confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
