RAJKOT: At least 13 persons were detained and booked for attempt to murder after two groups clashed over a petty issue in Navalnagar locality in Mavdi area of Rajkot on Friday midnight. Police said that six persons, including a minor, were injured in the violence where both groups attacked each other with sticks and sharp weapons.
Police have registered two FIRs and started an investigation. Heavy police deployment was witnessed in Navalnagar and adjoining areas to prevent any further flare-ups.
According to police, the clash broke out over one of the accused allegedly harassing a person from rival group over phone.
Assistant commissioner of police J S Gedam told TOI, “Both the groups clashed over phone calls. They did not know each other. About 13 people from both the groups have been detained for questioning and the injured are under treatment in different hospitals.”
According to Malviya Nagar police, one of the accused identified as Mohsin Sumra was allegedly harassing the brother of the minor victim’s girlfriend over the phone. When the 17-year-old victim called Mohsin to meet and settle the issue the latter did not turn up. So the minor victim called up Mohsin again and they had a heated argument. Following this Mohsin dared the minor to come to Navalnagar.
The minor victim with dozen others reached Navalnagar around 11pm and told Mohisn that somebody was harassing his girlfriend’s brother and also hurling abuses at her girlfriend. They entered into an argument and later members of both groups attacked each other. Based on the minor's complaint, police booked Mohsin Sumra, Suleman and others under various sections of IPC including attempt to murder.
In the counter complaint filed by one Shehbaz from the rival group against unknown persons. He alleged that he was a fruit vendor and Mohsin had approached him following heated argument with the minor victim. Shehbaz further alleged that when he and other reached Navalnagar the minor victim and his friends attacked Parth and his attacked them.
