13 areas with the lowest coronavirus rates in County Durham

These are the 13 areas in County Durham with the lowest coronavirus infection rates.

As the number of positive cases continues to decline in the area, a number of places have seen their rates of infection.

Chester-le-Street South and East has the lowest rate in the area after recording 10 cases in the seven days to January 14.

Data from Public Health England, shows Coundon North and Upper Teesdale have the second and third lowest rates respectively - though Upper Teesdale is the only area to see a rise in cases.

Overall, County Durham recorded 1,665 cases - a drop of 32.3% - giving it an infection rate of 314.1.

Ouston and Beamish and Newton Hall and Brasside, which were previously coronavirus hotspots in the area, have also seen their rates drop significantly.

Despite cases dropping in the region and dropping to their lowest point since December 27 in the UK, another 1,610 coronavirus deaths were recorded on Tuesday - the biggest single-day jump during the pandemic.

It comes as ministers have warned there is unlikely to be any relaxation of the current rules before the review point next month.

According to The Sun the latest target for any significant lifting of the lockdown is now Good Friday on April 2.

(The figures are taken from the UK Government's Covid-19 map, with the figures correct for the week ending January 14. Infection rates are based on the number of cases, per week, for every 100,000 residents)
