THE state government has pledged to pour $57 million into two projects in the upper Hunter as the race for Michael Johnsen's former seat enters the final straight.
Singleton police station will be rebuilt under a $12 million state government commitment, while Muswellbrook hospital will also earn a $45 million spend.
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro on Monday announced the brand new station alongside Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott and Upper Hunter Nationals candidate Dave Layzell.
"The current police station in Singleton has been serving the community since 1867 and the heritage listed building is home to around 50 staff," Mr Barilaro said.
"The new fit-for-purpose station will meet the needs of the growing Hunter Valley Police District and mean Singleton can continue to be well resourced by NSW Police as part of the NSW Government's commitment to building a safer and stronger Upper Hunter."
The government pledge arrives just over a week from the Upper Hunter byelection.
The Nationals commitment for Singleton police station comes a month after Labor pledged to spend $17 million on the building if it wins government in 2023.
The government has also pledged to deliver the $45 million third stage of Muswellbrook Hospital.
The plan, which has been in the works since 2018, is the final step of the development.
"The improvements we are announcing today include a new 26 bed inpatient unit, with two palliative care beds, a four-bed maternity inpatient unit and two birthing suites to ensure the best care for local mums and bubs," Mr Barilaro said.
"Construction on the new operating theatres will begin next year. This redevelopment will ensure we provide the most contemporary models of care across the board."
Labor last week pledged $27 million to complete stage two of the hospital upgrade.
More to come.
