125 new Swansea homes are set to be built in a disused Morriston quarry

The next phase of a 310-home development at a disused quarry in Swansea has been submitted to planning officers.

Edenstone Homes has put forward detailed plans for 125 properties at the former Cwmrhydyceirw Quarry, near Morriston.

Some neighbouring residents are worried about phase two of the £65m Parc Ceirw development, claiming that the houses will overlook their bungalows and gardens.

Objector Robert Lewis, of Enfield Close, said he feared a loss of privacy.

In a letter to the council, Mr Lewis said: "Let me be clear, phase one of the development is spacious, attractive and a boost to the community.

"All the houses in phase two that are overlooking bungalows would surely be an infringement of our privacy."

Craig and Sian Batchelor, also of Enfield Close, claimed their garden would be overlooked by people from a total of 16 upstairs windows.

Edenstone Homes has outline consent for the overall development, and has built just under 30 bungalows in phase one.

The bulk of the houses and bungalows it wants to build surround the quarry basin, rather than being in it.  A new park, woodland and community hub building will be created.

And the developer will also fund three classrooms at Cwmrhydyceirw Primary School and a zebra crossing - and provide money to widen Maes y Gwernen Road.

Swansea's planning committee originally turned down outline plans for the quarry re-development in 2016, but a subsequent appeal was upheld by a Welsh Government planning inspector.

Edenstone Homes said in a design and planning statement accompanying its phase two application that suitable separation distances were proposed to safeguard the privacy of adjoining properties.

The statement added: "We are also working closely with a number of the neighbours to ensure that their comments are taken on board in the design and execution of the scheme."

Speaking in May last year, Richard Kelso, Edenstone Homes land director, said of Parc Ceirw: “Our plans will see a former quarry transformed beyond recognition to provide much-needed new homes for all segments of the marketplace."
