121 journalists in India died of Covid in 2021: Rate the Debate Campaign

At least 171 journalists have lost their lives to Covid-19 since April 2020, according to a list compiled by Rate The Debate Campaign, and initiated by the Institute of Perception Studies, Delhi.

The list, updated on May 6, shows that 121 journalists died this year alone, with the most deaths, 90, taking place in April. Twenty-four journalists died in the first six days of May, an average of four a day, due to Covid complications.

Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Telangana account for the most number of deaths.

According to its website, the Institute of Perception Studies conducted its research based on a three-step verification process: data collection from media reports and already existing lists, cross-verification through media reports and calls to colleagues, and employers and families of the journalists.
