12 things Edinburgh has that Londoners are incredibly jealous of

Londoners often feel like their city is literally the centre of the world, and will be adamant that there is not better place to live.

However, in the privacy of their own homes (which are tiny and shared with five other people all paying £750 a month, not including bills), there are things they can admit they don’t have, that we do in Edinburgh.

Namely, a dormant volcano, free comedy in the summer, flats with actual living space, and most importantly: limescale-free tea.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of all these things about Edinburgh that we take completely for granted, and that Londoners are incredibly jealous of.

1. Not having bits of limescale floating in your morning cuppa.

Some cities were built on rock ‘n’ roll, London was built on a thin film of limescale. Whereas Edinburgh's water is so pure and clear you'd swear you could hear Highland pipes playing as it comes out of the tap.

2. And the specific, beautiful shine the soft water gives your hair.

If you’ve ever wondered why your hair always looks a bit crap, flat, rough and lifeless when you go to London – this is why. Your only option is to spend a lot of money on fancy shower head filters, expensive shampoos - or you could just shave your head or something.

3. Not having to pay prescription fees for your medicine.

Not paying a minimum of £8 to get your pink eye fixed is a something you really take for granted until you have to do it.

4. Being able to get £5 out from a cash machine.

Folk down South were so excited at the launch of a £5 cash machine it made the local news (gazettelive.co.uk)

This seems so obvious and yet?? Londoners are stuck having to get a tenner out every time they have to pay for their £4 coffee in cash.

5. Having a massive, gorgeous mountain in the middle of your city.

Primrose Hill is nice but it’s not a dormant volcano.

6. Being able to walk everywhere.

Not only that, but the walk is likely to take you through some really beautiful places.

7. Plus it means being able to see your friends more regularly.

You're way more likely to live in walking distance of your friends' houses, or a short bus ride away. In London, your friends are usually about a 90 minute tube, bus and taxi ride away. And that's just one way.

8. Big, beautiful, high-ceilinged flats as standard.

Not to mention flats with open fireplaces and built-in shelves (Edinburgh press, don't mind if I do). Imagine living in a place you actually think is beautiful?? Most Londoners cannot.

9. And they are actually affordable - more or less.

We're not saying that Edinburgh's the cheapest place in the universe or anything, but at least you can rent a flat for under £20 million per annum.

10. The clean air.

Yet another benefit of living near the sea (and also not in the city that contains the most polluted street in all of Europe).

11. All the free comedy you get to see in August.

Entertainment! And it’s free! And it’s all month long! Yes, to be fair some of the Free Fringe shows are absolutely awful - but hey, at least you don't have to pay if they are. And there's a chance that you might see the next big name before they get famous - good for bragging in the pub in a decade's time.

12. And finally, not having to go underground in order to travel.

This might be controversial, but human beings are really not designed to spend hours every day deep within the earth in a hot, sweaty, metal tube.

That’s just my opinion though.
