12 ridiculous insults you’ll only ever hear in Dublin

Dublin is a great place for shopping, drinking and most importantly, a place where you can hear the most unique insults in Ireland.

In Dublin, we have proper insults and if you’re not from the capital, hearing one of these offensive remarks might leave you a bit confused.

Thankfully, us Jackeens have put together a handy list of insult translations for those less cultured in city slang.

A bungalow

An idiot - because they have nothing upstairs.

Example: Yer man's a real bungalow.

Shower

A word to describe a group, not the weather.

Example: A shower of gobsh*tes.

Mawldy

Another word for disgusting. Would you look at the mawldy head on yer man?

Sap

Ye sap.. It means you’re just a plain old sappy sap. Go on and cry, ye sap. It’s not nice to be at the receiving end of it, but so satisfying to use.

Bleedin eejit

Dubliners will call you a bleedin’ eejit when you do something so stupid. It will definitely have people questioning your reputation as a functioning human being.

Ye spoofer

Someone who pretends to know what they're talking about but really hasn’t a clue.

Synonym: a "sham".

The absolute hack of ye

A term that can be directed at someone ugly, badly dressed, or simply acting like an idiot.

Synonym: The absolute state of ye.

Scarleh fer yer ma for havin ya

A favourite of ours. The meaning in plain English is: "I'm embarrassed for your mother for giving birth to you".

It can also extend to the person's grandmother for extra effect.

Example: "Scarleh fer yer granny for havin yer ma for havin ya".

Dirtbird

Someone with a filthy mind or simply just someone disgusting.

Example: Would yeh shut up ye dirtbird, me Ma's in the next room.

Geebag

Dublin slang meaning a disagreeable woman.

Ye thick

A particularly stupid person.

Plastic Paddy

Someone who born in England.
