12 new confirmed coronavirus cases in Lothians as Scottish total jumps by over 180

There are 12 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Lothians area as the total hits 151 overnight, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

A total of 1,245 people have now tested positive for the virus in Scotland - which is an overnight increase of over 186 cases.

Seven more Scots patients who had tested positive for coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, as the death toll rises to 40 in Scotland.

There are also 376 confirmed cases in Glasgow, 107 in Tayside and 51 in Fife.

More than 13,000 tests have been carried out across Scotland, with over 11,000 confirmed negative.

It has also emerged today that Scottish Secretary Alister Jack is now self-isolating after developing coronavirus symptoms, while UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Friday that he had tested positive for the disease.

The country remains in lockdown, with police now given powers to enforce social distancing rules in public. The measures aim to cut social contact by at least 75% in an aim to slow the spread of the virus.

The latest numbers of coronavirus in Scotland are published by the Scottish Government daily at 2pm.
